Omega Speedmaster Mark II Zwei-Tone Sedna Gold Uhr Hands-On

Im vergangenen Jahr 2014 "Re-Issue" der Speedmaster Mark II Co-Axial Chronograph Uhr war ein deutlicher Hit für Omega. Ich weiß, weil ich nicht nur ein, aber ein paar meiner Freunde haben auch. Während ich das traditionellere Schwarz-Weiß-Zifferblatt bevorzugte, veröffentlichte Omega im vergangenen Jahr zwei weitere Versionen, darunter das Omega Speedmaster Mk II Grau und Orange "Racing Dial" (siehe hier) sowie das limitierte Rio 2016 Olympia-Modell mit Gold, Bronze , Und silberfarbenen Subdial. Anscheinend war der Omega Speedmaster Mark II so beliebt, dass er sich für ein Stahl- und Goldzweiton-Modell entschied - genau das bekommen wir 2015 mit dem Omega Speedmaster Mark II Co-Axial Chronographen Sedna Gold .

Ganz im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes ist das Omega Speedmaster Mk II Sedna Gold genau das, was Sie über den All-Stahl Omega Speedmaster Mk II lieben - aber nur blingier. Dass es gerade ausgeschaltet einen großen Prozentsatz von Ihnen (Speedmaster Folk neigen dazu, Werkzeug Uhr Puristen werden), aber vielleicht nur gerade genug von Ihnen ein bisschen gespielt und aufgeregt bei der Vorstellung von mehr 18k Sedna Gold in Ihre Uhr Diät.

Houston ist auch die Heimat der NASA - die, während Speedmaster zentrale, ist nicht ohne seine Liebe zum Gold (die Gold Speedmasters enthält). Meine einzige gripe mit dem 3330 ist, dass, um schnell das Datum, das Sie brauchen, um die in-set Fall Schieber auf der linken Seite des Falles verwenden. Ansonsten ist die Omega Speedmaster Mk II eine ziemlich perfekte Uhr.
Einige der nüchternen Werkzeug sehen Blicke der alle Stahl Omega Speedmaster Mark II sind in diesem zweifarbigen Modell geändert, weil die Gold-Elemente sind poliert versus gebürstet. Ein Teil von mir fragt sich, was diese Version der Omega Speedmaster Mark II Uhr aussehen würde, wenn Omega beschlossen, für eine schwarze versus graues Zifferblatt gehen. Seiko Ananta SRQ017 100th Jahrestags-Chronograph-Uhr Hands-On

Für 2013, die neueste Ananta Uhr ist diese limitierte Auflage SRQ017 100th Anniversary Chronograph. Im Jahr 2009 besuchte ich die verschiedenen Seiko-Produktionsstandorte in Japan. Ananta war mehr als nur eine neue Kollektion für Seiko, sondern die erste weltweit verkaufte High-End-Seiko-Uhr. Das war schon vor Seiko beschlossen , seine wertvollen Groß Seiko - Kollektion auf einer globalen Basis ein paar Jahre später in etwa 2011 Ananta zu verkaufen war ein halber Strecke zwischen Uhr Seiko Uhren schöner und wirklich schöne Grand - Seiko. Ananta kam ursprünglich mit sowohl in-house gemacht mechanischen Bewegungen sowie Seiko Spring Drive Bewegungen ausgestattet. Seiko hat seither die Entscheidung getroffen, Spring Drive für Grand Seiko exklusiv zu halten.


Im Laufe der Jahre seit der 2009 Veröffentlichung der Seiko Ananta, hat Seiko nicht die Sammlung eine Menge Aufmerksamkeit. Neue Seiko Ananta Uhren sind fast ausschließlich limitierte Auflage Modelle. Im Jahr 2011 gab es die Limited Edition Ananta Urushi Diver (Hands-on hier), und für 2012 gab es ein Paar Seiko Ananta Urushi Limited Edition (Hands-on hier). Diese Stücke waren schön, aber nicht revolutionär. Die Seiko Ananta Sammlung erwies sich nicht als einladend für den Massenmarkt, wie Seiko vielleicht hoffte. Das Problem war, dass es immer noch erforderlich, eine Ausbildung zu schätzen, was Seiko hatte in der High-End-Abteilung zu bieten. 11 Reasons Why You Still Need a Traditional Watch

It seems like everything is getting updated, digitized and electrified these days, and all the classical beauty and aesthetic of the past is being lost by the wayside. But there is one bastion of vintage elegance and style still in common use; the classic analogue wristwatch is still a stalwart of the well-dressed professional and style conscious person’s wardrobe. With the emergence of the smart watch, however, many are wondering if we will lose the traditional timepiece in the wake of this high tech revolution, but there are still reasons to hang on to the humble (or not so humble depending on your taste) wristwatch.

No Distractions 

Don’t get swept up in all the functions of a smart watch when you’re supposed to be getting stuff done and having real-life interactions. Nothing irritates people more than someone fiddling with their phone while they are supposed to be paying attention, so you can only imagine the level of distraction that a tiny computer on your wrist comes with. Thankfully, a classic timepiece does its job without causing distraction. 

Mobile Devices Suck Up Your Time

Let’s face it, the last thing you need is another way to play Flappy Bird or Candy Crush. These games (along with dozens of other time-sucking apps) are already very accessible from your phone in your pocket, but if they are on your wrist, it will be a constant temptation.

Less Noisy

A timepiece does not need to be put on silent before you go into a big meeting, nice dinner or movie theater. Ringtones blasting out of a bag or pocket is one thing, but a device going off right in your client’s face will probably not make the best impression.

Hundreds of Years of Engineering Perfection 

Smartphones and watches are recent innovations that are still being fine-tuned, whereas watchmaking is an art form perfected over centuries. Timepieces are more reliable and they won’t try to auto update at the very moment you need the time.

More Aesthetically Pleasing

Nothing says style and elegance like a classical timepiece, which allows you to look well dressed in a matter of seconds. Wonderful retro style and vintage chic are easy to achieve by just selecting the right watch. The same can’t be said for a screen you wear on your wrist.

Character 

There aren’t many avenues in corporate, business or black tie dress to express your individuality or personal style. But no matter how conventional or conservative the dress code is, you can always get away with an interesting or unusual watch that grabs attention and communicates your unique style.

Timepieces Don’t Consume Data

Avoid watch bill shock by avoiding the data consumption that accompanies a smart watch. Every one of those extra functions may cost you, and you may not know the true cost of your new timepiece until the end of the billing cycle.

Heirlooms 

Family watches get passed down through generations, but smart phones will be on the scrap heap as soon as they are considered to be outdated. Smart watches will no doubt go the way of the smart phone and end up obsolete within just a few years, but a well-made watch can last generations.

Battery Life

Most modern watches self-wind or can be easily rebooted with a long-lasting battery.  So-called smart watches, on the other hand, need to be frequently charged to stay operational.  Most of us already have enough devices to remember to keep charged up without adding a watch to the mix.

Heat

Smart devices tend to overheat, and while the wearable device may insulate the arm from the potential heat of the watch, there is still a risk of overheating and the damage that can happen to the device as a result.

Easier to get Repaired

Many smart watch manufacturers make it exceedingly difficult to repair their products. In fact if you send it away to the manufacturer to be repaired, it’s likely that you will get an entirely new device back, so difficult are these devices to fix. But no need to worry when you have a traditional watch – take it into just about any jeweler, and you will have your very own watch back and working in no time.

As you can see, there are so many reasons not to omit a timepiece from your wardrobe, despite all of the developments in smart watch technology.

With connotations of style, precision and class you really can’t overlook the look, feel and function of a classical, or contemporary traditional wristwatch.

Zelos Abyss

I Shortly after he launched his first watch, the Helmsman, Zelos founder Elshan Tang told me about his plans for future models, including a diver's watch. He was going big on this one. Not in terms of size (although 43mm is hardly small), but in concept. The new one would be a dual-crown, bronze case diver, with a depth rating measured in thousands of meters, and it would look unmistakably Zelos. He made good on his vision. He launched the Abyss on Kickstarter at the end of 2014, and easily crushed his funding goals. Five variants were offered: blue, green, brown, black, and black with a black DLC bezel. Production models started shipping in the autumn of 2015, and some models are still available for sale now. Elshan sent me a green one for this review.

I was delighted from the moment I opened the package. Maybe I'm weird, but big, glossy display boxes with felt lining do little for me. They are fun for a moment at the initial unboxing, but then they go right to the bottom of the closet. I'm much happier when a watch arrives in something I can actually use. Zelos excels in this area. The watch ships in a simple wooden box with a snap latch lid. It's not fancy, but it a box I might use for something else – a NATO collection perhaps. Inside is a five-pocket leather watch roll containing the Abyss, two extra straps, and a quality strap changing tool. I would have happily purchased the travel roll on its own. It is a lovely yellow-tan leather that fastens with a buckled strap. It safely secures the watch for shipping, and should serve well for years after.

The Zelos Abyss is a mighty chunk of metal - CuSn8 bronze to be precise. Measuring 43mm across and just under 52mm long, it will fit within the confines of most wrists, but it is also a whopping 18mm thick. It will not sit meekly under a shirt cuff, nor should it. With a 3000m depth rating and helium release valve, it would be a shame not to take it to the briny depths. Of course, having no interest in diving myself, I took it for a walk on the beach instead. What can I say? I'm a romantic. A lazy, land-dwelling romantic. 

No matter, the watch is perfectly functional on dry land too. The dual crowns operate smoothly. The top rotating the inner bezel while the bottom sets the movement. Each has five gaskets to ensure a watertight seal. Both crowns are signed, and DLC coated, but while the black finish coordinates well with the black dial and black bezel models, perhaps less so for the color dials. It is not that the crowns are unattractive, but I would have preferred they match the case. On the other hand, they do allow you to wear the watch on straps with black hardware, which can be handy.

Unlike the Helmsman, the case is simple, without dramatic cut-outs or scallops, only a polished, beveled edge along the upper surface. Similarly, the 120-click, unidirectional bezel has a flat, brushed surface with recessed markers and a lume-filled triangle at top center and a poised edge on its cog-shaped grips. It works. The flat brushed surfaces emphasize the watch's mass while the hints of polish lighten the design, providing a welcome bit of flash on the otherwise sober expanse of bronze. Flip it over, and you are treated to a solid case back with a submarine decoration, basic information, and your watch's production number. The cover is a hefty 4mm thick and screws down to seal two O-rings. Out front is a 7mm domed sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating. This vault protects a tried and true Miyota 9015 automatic movement. Aficionados already know the specs: 24 jewels, 28.8k bph, 40+ hour power reserve, hacking and hand winding capabilities, and rock steady reliability.

The case is nicely finished, with no unduly sharp corner or rough edges. Being that bronze is a "living" metal, the surface is ever changing as it reacts to its environment. It arrived at my door almost perfectly clean and reddish gold with just a few dark spots of oxidation on the bezel. In short order, a mellow patina began to form, settling first in the brush marks on its surface and creating a sober, mottled effect. You could always polish this off, but that defeats the purpose of buying bronze in the first place. I think the worn look is right at home on a tool watch. 

Where the case is almost all business, the dial is far more playful. The shimmering jade green color catches you first then draws you into the three layers inside: first the internal bezel with its printed gold index, then a flat layer of applied gold markers, and finally the lower surface bearing the gold Zelos logo and "Automatic 3000M" printed proudly below. Broad, gold hands carry fat bands of bright BWG9 SuperLuminova from tip to tail, leaving the sides semi-skeletonized. The second hand is also gold but painted red a good 1/3 of its length from the tip. It is a beautiful dial that does not want for function. The markers and hands are highly legible, day and night. The combination of internal and external timing bezels may be overkill, but they do allow for some interesting fine tuning and damn if they don't look cool. 

The three 24mm straps offer three very different experiences for the wearer. The black nylon NATO with its bronze loops is a sensible choice for diving, but I found it made the already top-heavy Abyss a bit unwieldy, making it my least favorite. The black rubber dive strap offers much better balance and also coordinates with the black crowns. This would be my pick for any wet activities. The final strap is a brown, oil-tanned leather which displays a fine pull-up effect. Like the bronze, the leather will proudly carry the marks of age and wear, developing a rugged character. To my eye, this is the best of the bunch: comfortable, attractive, and thick enough to handle that massive case. 

Both of the two piece straps share a signed bronze buckle. Like that of the Helmsman, the Abyss buckle is highly stylized with open sides and a unique shape, but it is let down by sharp edges and corners. I didn't find it uncomfortable, but the lack of finish, when compared to the case, was nonetheless disappointing. Still, this is about the only thing I can criticize. In every other respect, the Zelos delivers – perhaps even over delivers.  

The Abyss sells for $820 direct from Zelos. It is a fair sum to part with, but you are getting an attractive, capable watch with several tasty accessories to boot. Only the green, brown, and black-on-black are available, which is good news because I always thought the green was the prettiest of the bunch.
